I made these for the women who are done making themselves smaller - each fan cut by hand from a copper sheet into its precise half-circle shape, then hammered by hand across the full two-and-a-half-inch width, one strike at a time, until the surface holds the warmth of every blow.
Copper has been worn close to the skin for thousands of years by people who needed to feel the warmth of the sun even when it wasn't there, and the women who come back to me always say the same thing: something in them has opened up again.
