The quality of a garment is also evident in how it ages. Whether it's a wool suit, a linen dress, or a cotton shirt, wool, linen, and cotton can last for years without losing their shape or luster, provided they are properly cared for. Here are our tips for daily care of your Maison Valmont garments, for both men and women.
Wool
Wool is a living material that is sensitive to heat and repeated friction. We recommend cold washing, either by hand or on your machine's wool cycle, and always drying flat, away from any direct heat source. Between wears, allow your wool garments to rest for at least 24 hours: the fibers will naturally regain their shape, thus avoiding overly frequent washing. Gentle brushing with a clothes brush removes pilling and restores volume to the fibers, whether on a coat or a blazer.
Linen
Linen wrinkles easily; this is one of its natural characteristics rather than a flaw. We recommend washing cold or at a maximum of 30 degrees, and steam ironing inside out to preserve its luster. For a more relaxed look, simply let the linen dry on a hanger: the fibers will naturally relax.
Cotton
Cotton tolerates frequent washing better, but also benefits from careful treatment to retain its colors. Washing at 30 degrees, inside out and without excessive spinning, limits pilling and fading. Avoid tumble drying as much as possible: air drying preserves the integrity of the fibers in the long term.
Some Common Rules
- Always opt for cold or low-temperature washing.
- Avoid strong spinning and tumble drying, which wear out the fibers.
- Store your garments on suitable hangers or folded flat, never hung by a simple strap.
- Air your clothes between wears rather than washing them systematically.
